When it comes to auto insurance, commercial or personal, most assume that their policy covers all parts of their vehicle. There are, however, a couple of things most drivers don’t consider that you will want to discuss with your trusted insurance advisor.
Aftermarket Auto Add-Ons
Aftermarket add-ons can become a huge headache with auto insurance if you aren’t adequately covered. Have you ever seen a pickup truck driving down the road with thousands of dollars’ worth of extra gear that the owner has added over time? Without the right coverage, they could face a costly problem in the event of an accident.
Your auto insurance policy won’t cover custom lighting, grill guards, camper tops, or any other items added after you purchased the vehicle, unless your provider explicitly adds them to your coverage. For commercial vehicles, this is especially common as aftermarket modifications are often required to utilize the vehicle for specific work purposes.
Original Manufacturer Parts
Additionally, there is often confusion regarding original manufacturer parts during repairs. Most insurance policies default to utilizing aftermarket or recycled parts when repairing vehicles. However, some owners prefer to have their car repaired with original manufacturer parts, which can lead to frustration or costly expenses.
If you are concerned with having only original manufacturer parts used in potential car repairs, be sure you work with your insurance agent to request the necessary coverage (which is often only available for newer vehicles).
