Are You at Risk for Cyber Attacks?
Cyber attacks are rising as our daily activities become increasingly online-focused. Many people, whether via their phone, laptop, or desktop, will use the internet daily. Each action we take in the online world involves recording or accessing different types of data, some of which may be sensitive.
Younger generations are accustomed to the internet and technology being part of nearly everything they touch. Most people, however, don’t recognize the full reach of cyber risk that comes with current technologies.
Increasing Cyber Risk
Here are a few areas that are currently seeing increasing cyber risk:
- Weak Passwords: Many people use weak passwords or the same passwords for many online accounts.
- Cryptojacking: Hackers are hijacking personal and work computers and mining for cryptocurrency, such as Bitcoin.
- Multi-Factor Authentication: Many people choose to stick with one simple password even when an app or website offers multi-factor authentication.
- Infrastructure Attacks: Vital infrastructure such as power grids and transportation networks have been computerized and are targeted by cyber attackers.
- Lack of Software Updates: Keeping software on phones and computers up to date avoids being susceptible to security flaws in older software versions.
- Technology in Medicine: The medical world now uses many smart devices and stores patient information online.
- Phishing: Online phishing scams are becoming progressively more sophisticated and hard to detect.
