How Multi-Factor Authentication Can Boost Your Cyber Security

Multi-Factor Authentication Defined

Have you ever tried to log into your bank account via an online portal? Did the website require you to input a code that was texted to the cell phone number connected to your account? This is a perfect example of multi-factor authentication (MFA).

Gaining access to accounts that may contain sensitive information often requires two verification methods. MFA requires a username and password followed by a computer-generated code or link, facial scan, or fingerprint.

Why Use Multi-Factor Authentication?

Multi-factor authentication is something your business should strongly consider using to protect sensitive information. Some cyber insurance policies may even require multi-factor authentication in specific circumstances.

The increasing number of remote workers leads to employees accessing critical information from anywhere with an internet connection. MFA reduces cyber risk by ensuring only authorized employees (who receive the proper code/link or are verified via face scan or fingerprint) can retrieve sensitive data remotely.

Additionally, company email accounts store massive amounts of private information that cybercriminals often target. Hackers can easily compromise simple email usernames and passwords. On the other hand, using MFA when logging into email accounts provides an added level of security.
