Cyber Security in Remote Work

New technology and the ability to work remotely has many benefits. There are, however, some key risks to be aware of if you have employees working from home.

Cyber Security Risk in Remote Work

Cyber security risk is one of the main issues facing companies with remote workers today. Remote workers access company servers from different devices and communicate business information across widespread locations.

Overall, having employees working from home means that there is less regulation. In a traditional office, an IT team regulates cybersecurity practices. While IT services may be available to remote workers, they are not in person to help with immediate questions and concerns.

Working From Home and Staying Cyber Safe

Staying cyber-safe in remote work is critical in protecting your business. The first step is ensuring you have the right cyber insurance in place. An experienced commercial insurance agent can advise you on the different types of coverage and how they may apply to your specific needs.

Next, you’ll want to be sure you work with your IT team or a cyber security expert to determine proper protocols for remote workers. They may need to use specific devices, download special software, and have detailed systems in place to create a cyber-safe environment when working from home.

Finally, once you have your cyber security protocols in place, make sure plenty of resources and time are spent educating employees. Training workers in regards to phishing, password protection, antivirus software, etc., is crucial in successfully implementing cyber security protocols.
